Chan Li Wen
Retired teacher, Queenstown
I came to Saujana Law because my CPF situation had become complicated after my husband passed, and nobody had given me a clear picture of where I stood. The Pension Vista Letter was exactly what I needed — not a lecture, just a careful explanation of the numbers and what each account meant for my future.
What I valued most was that the lawyer told me one thing early on that turned out not to be in my favour. Another firm might have left that out. Here they said it plainly, and I appreciated the honesty.
March 2025 — Pension Vista Letter
Rajendran Selvam
Operations manager, Toa Payoh
My former employer had disputed a portion of my pension entitlement from a scheme that predated CPF, and I had been told by two other firms that it was too small to pursue. Saujana Law disagreed and took the matter on through their Long Course service.
It was not fast, but they kept me informed without me ever needing to ask. The matter was resolved through negotiation, and I received more than either of the earlier firms had said was realistic.

I engaged the firm for the estate planning service after a difficult family conversation made it clear I had been putting it off for too long. The three sittings were unhurried — no sense that we were being moved along to reach a conclusion before we were ready.
The bound folder at the end was something I did not expect to find as useful as it has been. I have already looked back at it twice when questions came up with my bank.
January 2025 — Distant Horizon Estate Plan
Mohammed Karim
Self-employed contractor, Jurong
As a self-employed person, I had always assumed I was not really entitled to much in the way of pension advice — that it was something for employees. The Pension Vista Letter showed me a fuller picture than I expected, including some things in my Ordinary Account I had not thought to query.
The language was clear. The lawyer answered my questions without making me feel I was taking up too much time.
March 2025 — Pension Vista Letter
Tan Hwee Lian
Civil servant, Bedok
My difficulty was specific: a pension nomination made years ago that I suspected was no longer consistent with my will, which had been updated after my divorce. I had not known this was something a firm could help me sort out.
The estate plan brought everything into alignment. The lawyer was the one who spotted that the nomination and the will were pointing in different directions — I had not brought it up myself.
February 2025 — Distant Horizon Estate Plan
Geetha Narayanan
Healthcare worker, Tampines
My former employer's occupational pension scheme had been wound up without, as far as I could see, the members being properly informed. Saujana Law took time to explain what had happened and whether there was anything to be done about it.
The outcome was not what I had hoped for, and the lawyers were straightforward with me about that early on rather than letting me continue with unrealistic expectations. That was difficult to hear but the right way to handle it.
January 2025 — Long Course in Pension Disputes
In More Detail
Three matters, described.
Pension Vista Letter — Retired Couple, East Coast
The Situation
A couple in their early sixties, both recently retired, had four CPF accounts between them and two legacy employer pension arrangements from 1990s employment. They were about to make decisions about property and a CPF nomination change but were unsure of their full position.
The Work
A single sitting of approximately two hours. Both clients attended together. The firm prepared a Pension Vista Letter setting out all accounts, the terms of the legacy arrangements, and a plain-language summary of what each element meant for their decisions.
What Followed
The couple proceeded with a revised CPF nomination and deferred the property decision until the following year. They returned six months later for the Distant Horizon Estate Plan. The letter had been referred to four times in the intervening period.
Long Course — Pension Dispute, Former Banking Employee
The Situation
A former bank employee believed a portion of his defined-benefit pension entitlement had been miscalculated at the point of scheme closure. The amount in question was SGD 14,000. Two other firms had declined the matter as not worth pursuing.
The Work
Saujana Law reviewed the scheme documents and the original calculation. The firm opened correspondence with the former employer's trustees and set out the basis for the dispute. Negotiations ran over approximately five months.
What Followed
The trustees agreed to a revised figure of SGD 11,200. This was less than the full amount claimed but more than the client had been told to expect. The client chose to accept the negotiated figure rather than pursue formal proceedings.
Estate Plan — Widower, Preparing for Family Transition
The Situation
A widower in his late sixties with three adult children wanted a will, a lasting power of attorney, and certainty that his CPF nomination was consistent with his estate wishes. An earlier will from before his wife's death had not been updated.
The Work
Three sittings over six weeks. The firm prepared a new will, a lasting power of attorney naming two of his children as donees, and reviewed the CPF nomination to ensure it reflected his revised wishes. The nomination and will were brought into alignment.
What Followed
All documents were executed and delivered in a bound folder with a plain-language summary. The client shared the folder with his eldest child. He described the experience as giving him a settled feeling about a subject that had made him uneasy for several years.
